Good-Faith Reports

A good-faith report is one made honestly and with a reasonable belief that the information disclosed indicates possible misconduct. A report may be made in good faith even if the concern is not ultimately substantiated after review.

A person who knowingly makes a false report, acts in bad faith, or intentionally provides false or misleading information may be subject to appropriate corrective action.

Protection From Retaliation

Re-fined prohibits retaliation against any person who, in good faith:

  • Reports a concern
  • Participates in an investigation
  • Provides information related to a concern
  • Refuses to participate in conduct they reasonably believe is illegal or unethical

Retaliation may include discharge, demotion, suspension, threats, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, adverse scheduling or assignment decisions, removal of responsibilities, denial of opportunities, or any other adverse action taken because a person made or supported a good-faith report.

Anyone who believes they have experienced retaliation should report it immediately through the reporting channel above. Retaliation claims will be treated as separate policy violations and addressed promptly.

Confidentiality and Review

Re-fined will handle reports as confidentially as reasonably possible, consistent with the need to conduct a fair review, comply with applicable law, protect individuals and the organization, and take appropriate corrective action.

Information related to a report will be shared only with those who have a legitimate need to know in order to assess, investigate, respond to, or oversee the matter.

Upon receiving a report, Re-fined will document the concern, conduct an initial assessment, and arrange for an appropriate and impartial review. Re-fined will make reasonable efforts to preserve relevant information, review concerns fairly and promptly, and take corrective, disciplinary, or remedial action when warranted.
