Jenn’s story is a powerful reflection of perseverance, faith, and the impact of compassionate community support. After years of battling addiction, homelessness, and legal challenges, her path shifted when she connected with Re-Fined — a community that came alongside her with practical support, friendship, and unwavering encouragement.
For much of her adult life, Jenn struggled to break free from addiction, facing repeated encounters with the legal system. But through God’s grace and the steady support of Re-Fined, she began rebuilding her life. From receiving emotional support during a pivotal court case to being embraced through Re-Fined’s Faithful Friend program, Jenn found stability and a renewed sense of purpose.
Today, Jenn lives in her own apartment, is active in her local church, and continues to deepen her faith. Her story serves as a testament to the power of hope, the strength found in faith-driven relationships, and the belief that no one is beyond redemption.
Jenn’s Journey in Her Own Words
Let us pray…Father in heaven thank you for your presence here at this gathering. Thank you for this opportunity to speak about how you have changed my life. Help me to relate the many countless things you have done in my life and bring a message to those who are listening. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
Hi, my name is Jen Pierson. I’m 62 years old and I live in Commerce City. Three years ago I was homeless in Denver and suffering from my addiction. I have struggled with my addiction for most of my adult life, with only brief periods of sobriety. I have also been in and out of jail for part of that time. Throughout all of this, God has been with me and saved me or I wouldn’t be standing here in front of you right now.
Three years ago I entered ICCS, a halfway house here in Denver. I was transferred from there to Stages, a treatment facility for mental health and addiction. I was hearing voices and struggling in my mental health as well as struggling to stay clean. After several weeks in the Stages program I transferred to sober living and that’s when I came to learn about Re-fined.
Back in October of 2018 I was molested by a man who apparently was attacking numerous women. I was approached by the Jefferson County district attorney’s office about testifying against this man who had finally been apprehended. Re-fined came alongside me to support me in this case. They provided me with court clothing, make-up and hair design and rides to and from court and most importantly they prayed with me.
When it came time for me to leave sober living and strike out on my own again, Re-fined was right there to help me with my move. They picked up donated furniture and other items with which to furnish my apartment and they unloaded everything.
After my move they arranged for counseling and Jessi came alongside me as my mentor in the Faithful Friends program, which I’m still in, along with the Continuing Care program. We meet on a regular basis for support and comradery. I’ve also had an opportunity to do some volunteer work within their program.
All of this has been God coming alongside me and bringing me out of my terrible addiction, legal issues and homelessness. He has given me strength and sustained me as I move forward in my sobriety. He provided support and my home and my car. I do Bible study everyday and am now active in a local church. All of these things have changed my life and given me hope for the future.
Thank you for this opportunity to share my journey.
